An open invitation to the members and congregation of our church to attend the Exhibition Preview of Untitled (on an unknown day . . .) by Jason E. Bowman and Out in the City

You are Invited to the Exhibition Preview of Untitled (on an unknown day . . .)

by Jason E. Bowman and Out in the City

at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester UK   Friday 15 January 18.00 to 20.00.

Artist Jason E. Bowman has worked with Manchester’s OUT in the CITY – a social group for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans people over the age of 50 – on an exhibition that recalls an infamous legal trial held in the North West in 1936.

29 men, including war veterans, were tried for homosexual ‘crimes’ and those found guilty received years of hard labour, penal servitude, and in one case, incarceration in a psychiatric institution.

From archival and media research Out in the City were able to re-enact the trial and this exhibition records this in drawings by official television court artist Matthew Lawrence and pinhole photography by Joel Chester Fildes.

You are invited to attend this special preview evening of this rare exhibition dealing with the complexities of  LGBT histories and to support Out in the City – who also remember life before legalisation.
