Guest preacher - Rev Jane Clarke - formerly of MCC East London, now forming an MCC in Glasgow

On 9th September we welcome the Rev Jane Clarke as our guest preacher.  Last week Jane stepped down after 12 years as pastor of the MCC in East London.  She, and her partner Kate Wood, have now moved to Glasgow and after settling in and finding work are hoping to start a new MCC congregation there.  Jane will be sharing her plans with us and asking for our support, love and prayers.

Sermon series based on Madonna songs - September onwards

We are preparing a sermon series to use in the Autumn after the Pride festival.  It is inspired by the songs of Madonna and her unique insight into life, sexuality and spirituality, seeing similarities and differences between this and the Scriptures.

Guest preacher - Rev Dwayne Morgan - Manchester Pride Weekend over August Bank Holiday

We welcome the Rev Dwayne Morgan as our guest preacher for the Pride service on Sunday 26th August.  Dwayne is our pastor in Bournemouth and is a much loved preacher with us; it is a delight to welcome him with us again.

Audio sermons now available

Dear Friends,

One of our goals this year was to expand the ministry of our website in various ways.

We have already added extra quizzes, a visitor’s book, a news blog, and an on-line catalogue of our library, as well as a special page for first time visitors to leave anonymous feedback arising from their first visit.

This week we have started to podcast our sermons!  This means you can listen to sermons on line or download them (opposite click and then save to your computer) so that you can play them either from your computer or from an MP3 player!  Now you can even listen to us in the gym!

We have recorded the last couple of sermons and also some others from further back.  You can also link to the text of the sermon from the audio download page (we have put sermon texts on line for some years now).

We hope in the near future to have some daily devotional podcasts with music, reflections and readings on line as well.

To find the podcasts go to our website http://www.mccmanchester.co.uk/ and then look for the left hand navigation bar, and in the worship section, you will find the download button.

Happy listening!

With much love,
Andy

Quiet and Calm Service - Tuesday 10th July - 8pm

On Tuesday 10th July we celebrate our monthly Quiet and Calm service in the Side Chapel at 8pm.  This is an intentionally quiet and gentle celebration of Holy Communion with an opportunity for silent prayer and reflection as well as the chance to be prayed for and anointed with oil for those ill in mind, body or spirit.

Upcoming social events - July/August/September 2007

On Sunday 29th July, after church, we are going into the Gay Village for a Chinese Meal together at Shanghai on Whitworth Street.

In August we are organising an MCC Mini Break in Northumbria together – details are on a separate posting.

In September we meet for lunch on Sunday 2nd at Sheer Khan in Curry Mile and then have a wander around Victoria Baths – these are close to church and won the first Restoration programme on TV.  The work is ongoing on these historic baths and they are well worth a visit.  We will come from the Baths on to Church.

On the 29th September we are planning a day together in York.  We will travel up on the train, have a wander around the shops, have some lunch and attend Choral Evensong in the beautiful York Minister.  York is a wonderful medieval city and is well worth seeing.

Leafleting in the Gay Village, Manchester - 8th July

Dan is off to the Village again on Sunday 8th July to put up posters. If you want to join him to lend a hand, please let him know by emailing him at dan@mccmanchester.co.uk

Mini-break to Lindisfarne

We are planning a church mini-break to the Lindisfarne area in Northumberland between 8th and 12th August. So far 13 people have booked to come for some or all of the time.

The beauty of the break is that it is entirely up to you for how long you come and join us for. Some are coming for the entire period (Weds evening – Sunday morning) others are coming just from Friday evening until Sunday, others still are coming Weds – Friday.

All you need to do is book your accommodation and let Andy know that you are coming and where you are staying. We hope to meet up with friends from MCCs Edinburgh and Newcastle on the Saturday as we explore Lindisfarne together.

Accommodation is booking up fast in the area – it is prime tourist season after all - so if you are wanting to come please book quickly, and let Andy know where you are staying (this makes planning our activities easier). Harry is intending to camp on a nearby campsite. He has a huge tent which will easily take five or six people and is happy to share. The site only charges £6 per night per tent so this is a very inexpensive way to join us.

We can arrange lifts for people to and from the campsite too, and should be able to arrange transport up to Northumbria as well.
